make dreams
a reality
For Gilmore Junio, representing Team Canada has always been about more than just winning a medal – it’s about exemplifying what it truly means to be Canadian. This was on full display in 2014, when he surrendered his spot in Sochi’s 1,000-metre event to teammate Denny Morrison (who went on to win a silver medal).
A former hockey player, Gilmore parlayed his strong on-ice ability into the world of speed skating in the summer of 2003. As Gil works to leave his mark on the speed skating world, he credits coach Mark Wild for helping to turn his dream of competing at the Olympic Games into reality; not just once or twice, but three times.
“Seeing Gil do things that a lot of other athletes couldn't was a real indicator of the true potential he had.”
